I’ll send corrupt Nigerians to Kirikiri – Buhari

The All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has assured Nigerians that all corrupt politicians will end up in jail once he is elected into power.

Buhari, who gave the assurance on Tuesday during the APC rally and the presentation of the party’s governorship flag to Umana Umana as its candidate in Akwa Ibom State in Uyo, said he would close all loopholes through which money was being siphoned out of the country.

“When we come into power, anyone who steals Nigerian money will end up in Kirikiri Maximum Prisons. We are going to make sure that Nigeria’s wealth belongs only to Nigerians,” he said.

Attack on Jonathan: Obasanjo laid foundation present crisis -Babatope ,Esele, Odumakin, Opadokun

By Dapo Akinrefon, Charles Kumolu & Gbenga Oke

LAGOS — MIXED reactions, yesterday, trailed accusation of mismanagement of Nigeria’s oil revenue levelled against President Goodluck Jonathan by a former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.

President Jonathan and Chief Obasanjo

Many, who spoke were unanimous in accusing Obasanjo of laying the foundation that led to the current dire state of the economy. They, however, did not spare Jonathan for allegedly encouraging profligacy in the present dispensation.

Those who spoke were a former Minister of Transport, Chief Ebenezer Babatope; ex-President General of Trade Union Congress, TUC, Comrade Peter Esele; Publicity Secretary of Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin and a former chieftain of defunct National Democratic Coalition, NADECO, Chief Ayo Opadokun.

Obasanjo is after President’s downfall

—Babatope

In his remarks, Babatope said: “Obasanjo has raised no issue and I have no doubt that this attack on President Jonathan is part of his plans to make Nigerians reject Jonathan ahead of the February 2015 election.

“Obasanjo himself was President of this country twice, he should not be found making such statements or attacking an innocent man. Obasanjo himself would not have been happy if anybody attacked him while he was in office, but here he is attacking an innocent man.

“There is nothing Obasanjo will say to change the minds of Nigerians towards voting for President Jonathan during the February elections. Obasanjo is an experienced man in government and he should not be the one making such statements.”

Hold Obasanjo responsible for our problems —Esele

“The President has himself to blame for what is happening because he is the leader of the country. It has shown how the oil revenue is being managed. We all knew about the existence of excess crude account. The state of the economy confirmed that the were all busy sharing the oil revenue without proper planning for the rainy day.

“Nigeria is the only country where people gather to share money monthly without making concrete plans for wealth creation. I believe the former President is responsible for our problems. He said he assisted the man in becoming the President. Since he has described the man as a failure, he is also a failure. Since he is making us believe that the president is failure, it also means that he made the wrong decision.

“There are other channels of communicating with the President rather this. However, I don’t think there is any secret in all Obasanjo said because they had all been in the public domain.

“My comment does not have anything to do with whether the President is re-elected or not. My focus is on the implications of the development on the polity.

“The question now, should be on how to get the economy work. Whoever emerges the President would have to make to critical decisions on how to handle the situation. He would either borrow to run finance governance or devalues the currency. But it is going to be tough for whoever that is elected president because these are not the best of times.”

He’s becoming a public nuisance—Afenifere

Odumakin said: “It is the media that has been giving Obasanjo undue relevance. You are not helping this country by giving him that kind of attention. He is a man who spent all his years in government encouraging corruption.

“During his administration, N560 billion was not remitted into the federation account and people are not asking questions. Nigerians must continue to hold their leaders accountable and they must continue to ask questions but with due respect, Obasanjo is turning himself into a public nuisance. He should spare us.

“It is very clear to Nigerians that Obasanjo wants this country to be in a crisis so that they will call on him again to come and save the country. That is what he is playing out.”

Jonathan has institutionalised corruption

— Opadokun

In his submission, Opadokun said: “I will not want to throw the baby away with the bath water just as I do not want to pontificate over the genuineness of ex-President Obasanjo but I believe strongly that he has spoken the minds of every Nigerian.

From : Vanguard News Online

“I am not saying that Obasanjo is the best man to make such statements but these allegations are evident that Jonathan’s administration is a failure when it comes to corruption compared to other past administrations.

“Ex-President Ibrahim Babangida administration whom many of us labelled the most corrupt government has come out to say he should be regarded a saint, a situation that has further confirmed that corruption has been institutionalised by the Jonathan administration.

“The Jonathan-led administration has been making a fool of Nigerians and one begins to wonder what kind of society we are living in. But without mincing words, what Obasanjo has said in that regard is very accurate and it further confirmed that the Jonathan administration has failed.”

I’LL EXPOSE FAILURES OF EX-HEADS OF STATE – JONATHAN

By Henry Umoru

ABUJA—PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, pleaded with Nigerians to vote him in for a second term on account of his achievements in the last six years.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, while inaugurating the Goodluck/Sambo 2015 Presidential Campaign Organisation, PCO, at the PDP Presidential Campaign office, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja promised to unfold to Nigerians what his government has done in the last couple of years that presidents and heads of state before him could not achieve.

I will expose my predecessors’ failings –Jonathan

Jonathan promised to expose the failings of his predecessors including Buhari, which stunted the country’s growth and development.
Former Military President, Ibrahim Babangida had described his government as saintly compared to successive administrations in terms of prevalence of corruption, just as former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Monday, took a swipe at President Jonathan, accusing him among other things of squandering $55 billion crude oil savings left behind by his Administration.

President Jonathan, who noted that his administration has performed more than the previous ones with the nation’s economy as the largest in Africa, said: “When we start campaigns, we will confront them with what we have done as a government, we will tell them what they did not do when they were heads of state. Some people want to still keep these children as shoe cleaners, we must lift them up. Our children should not be used as cannon folders. They should be allowed to move forward to be governors like us.

“We have everything it takes to run an excellent and victorious campaign. Our great party has demonstrated to Nigerians that it is the party with the broadest appeal. We are the strongest and the biggest. We have engaged the people of Nigeria positively with people-friendly policies, which have moved Nigeria forward.”

He continued: “We have sustained the democratic tradition. We have strengthened democratic institutions. We inherited a rather complex security challenge but we are waging a determined war against it. We are succeeding in preventing terrorists and insurgents from turning more of our communities into enclaves for their dastardly activities.

“We remain fully committed to further empowering the security agencies to enable them win the war against terror. We have proven to the people that we are a party and a team that they can rely upon.

We have achieved much in four years

“In the last four years, despite the security challenges we have had to contend with, Nigeria, under our watch, has made significant strides in every aspect. Our economy today is the largest and the strongest in the African continent, and a preferred destination for foreign direct investment.

“We have focused on job creation and the expansion of opportunities for our teeming youth as well as interventions to promote Micro, Small and Medium Scale Enterprises. Through an internationally acclaimed transformational agricultural programme, we have re-established agriculture as a business, and a major driver of economic growth.

“Today, not only is the agricultural sector thriving, the value chains in the sector have been activated and have become productive. The country’s food import bill has been reduced, and the non-oil sector has witnessed significant growth.

“We have expanded access to education by providing schools and facilities at the primary, secondary and tertiary levels. Today, there is a Federal University in every state of the Federation, and every Nigerian child has been given the opportunity to go to school.

“We have successfully privatized the power sector, a process that was adjudged by the international community of investors as transparent and credible. Our trains are moving again, from Lagos to Kano, from Lagos to Ibadan, from Port Harcourt to Enugu.

“I am not campaigning to you who are already convinced. I have no doubt that you are all familiar with the achievements of this administration. But I have outlined a few of them to show that we are in a solid position to run a campaign based on our commendable record. Our creditable performance in the past four years should be our strongest selling point as we go to the campaign fields.

“Flaunt our achievements in all parts of the country, tell the story of what we have achieved and let the facts and the figures be heard in every nook and cranny of Nigeria.”

Nigeria will get polls right next month

Speaking on next month’s election, President Jonathan who assured Nigerians that the country will get it right and will not break, vowed that those who foment trouble before and after the election would be dealt with in accordance with the law of the land, adding that campaigns must be issue-based and devoid of violence and thuggery.

“You have all been invited to serve our great party in this capacity, in recognition of your loyalty, dedication, commitment to the democratic cause, and your outstanding individual talents.

“I am fully convinced that not only are you up to the task individually or as a team, but that you also have all that it takes- the passion, intellect, drive, commitment, and the know-how to run a focused, robust and purposeful campaign that will further endear our ticket to the electorate and bring us victory once again.

“As we embark formally on the campaigns for our re-election, our party, the People’s Democratic Party will depend on you. I am also personally counting on you. I ask you to take on this assignment for your great party, for Goodluck Jonathan and Namadi Sambo, and also, more importantly, for the country as a whole.

“Without doubt, the forthcoming elections mark a critical point in our nation’s history. The eyes of the international community are focused on the transition that lies ahead of us; the fifth post-military rule general elections that will be conducted under a civilian dispensation in Nigeria.

“The world is asking: Will Nigeria get it right? My categorical response to that is: Yes, we must. And surely, we will. It is your duty to ensure that through your campaigns, and activities, this primary objective is not lost.

“Our commitment to free, fair, credible, and violence-free elections remains unshaken. That should also be your  commitment as we go to the field to seek the people’s mandate once again.

“You must always remember that we are a party of democrats, not a party of hooligans. We are a party of patriots, not a party of renegades. We are a party of statesmen and women. We are a party of builders, not destroyers. We are a party of committed servants of the people.  You must let our people see once again, that we are in this to serve and to move Nigeria forward, not to move Nigeria backwards.

“In the coming campaigns and elections, we must see to it that Nigeria triumphs, and that democracy wins. No other cause can be greater than the Nigerian cause. Without Nigeria, there will be no President.

“We have an obligation to consolidate our democracy, strengthen our institutions and project Nigeria positively by running a disciplined, issues-based and civilized campaign. That is my charge to you all.

“I am especially inspired by the positive energy, the optimism, and the enthusiasm among our party leaders and members. There may be issues arising from the party primaries, which have led to some of our members expressing grievances. But this is the time for all of us to come together and work as one family. At the end of the day, every one of us will be useful in one way or the other.

Campaign team must be civil, decorous
“In doing this, you must be civil, decorous and law-abiding. I have repeatedly promised Nigerians and the international community that as much as it lies within our powers, the coming general elections will be free, fair, credible and violence-free. I made that pledge with all seriousness and I fully intend to fulfil it.

“As agents of the ruling party, all eyes will be on you during the campaign and elections. I, therefore, expect nothing but the highest standards of exemplary conduct from you as your worthy contribution to the fulfilment of our pledge of peaceful and successful elections.

“Some other politicians and campaigners are threatening fire and brimstone. Do not join them. Some other parties are pulling down other people’s posters. That is primitive. Please, do not join them. Every Nigerian must be free to campaign anywhere.

“Thugs, violence and malpractice or rigging must have no place in our campaign and electoral activities. Do not join those who threaten to start fires and turn them into infernos in our country.

“I assure you and all Nigerians that whoever foments trouble before, during and after the elections will be promptly and decisively dealt with according to the law.”

With all our party leaders and members, we are going into this election season to legitimately seek our peoples’ mandate for further service, consolidation and continuity of progress for our country.

“We must place our hope for victory in nothing else but the support and confidence of the great majority of our people, and the blessing of Almighty God. We will ensure that the people’s vote counts and that their will prevails, as it should, in every true democracy.”
Promising party members especially those who lost at the primaries that other opportunities were there, he, however, urged them to remain in the party, work for the party to achieve victory.

President Jonathan said, “I call on all party members to stand as one in the face of the assignment ahead of us. Losing a party primary should not result in a loss of faith in the party. No election should be a do or die contest. Whatever grievances we have can be resolved within the family and will be resolved. There is a job to be done, and .all loyal members of our great party must play their expected roles.’

Why Barcelona SACKED Andoni Zubizarreta

Daily Star, have reveal the reason why BARCELONA sacked  Andoni Zubizarreta. It was revealed that it is not unconnected to sell of Cesc Fabregas to Chelsea.

And the Spanish press have claimed that the move was one of seven deadly sins that cost him his job.

Zubizarreta was axed as director of football yesterday after four years at the Nou Camp.

Spanish newspaper Marca write: “With Xavi Hernandez’s retirement only a matter of time, Barca appeared to have two tailor-made, home-grown candidates in their ranks to take on the maestro’s mantle in midfield.

“However, Pep Guardiola poached Thiago Alcantara for Bayern by paying his (bafflingly low) release clause and Cesc Fabregas returned to London in the summer following Ivan Rakitic’s arrival.

The very same Rakitic whom Luis Enrique has overlooked in several big games this season.”

Barcelona announced Zubizarreta was on his way in a statement released yesterday.

It read: “The FC Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has decided to terminate as of today the contract of the club’s Director of Football, Andoni Zubizarreta.

“The President, in the name of the club, thanks Andoni Zubizarreta for his contribution, dedication and professionalism over the last four years in his role at the head of the club’s football area.”

Okorocha’s free education is only a slogan – Capt Ihenacho

Okorocha’s free education is only a slogan – Capt Ihenacho

CAPTAIN Emmanuel Ihenacho, the immediate past minister of Interior and a successful business man, who hails from Emekuku in Owerri North Local Council of Imo State is the state’s governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the February polls. In this interview he, among others unfolds his plans for Imo, if voted into power.

By Fintan Ibegwam

Why are you vying for this position?
Our people for a long time have been denied the benefit of good governance. If we had good governance in place Imo would have developed more than it is now.

Some of the social problems like unemployment, endemic poverty and infrastructural decay would not have been as bad as it is today. So it is better that we take our destiny into our hands and not be on the sidelines all the time. We have to intervene by participating fully in the political process and by doing so I will be able to turn around the fortunes of our people through good governance.

How do you plan to handle unemployment and poverty?
Unemployment is simple to handle. There are no jobs. The economy is situated on false premises. The real economy is situated on the premise where you have manufacturing capacity, that manufacturing capacity will be responsible for producing the bulk of the consumer goods and items that are consumed within the economy. Their processing also creates job opportunities; people can work and earn good wages. This will afford them all the good things of life. Unfortunately we have had administrations which have concentrated on sharing money from the sale of crude oil from the federal government.

Dubious projects

The state government through dubious projects and contracts waste the money without regard for establishing companies with capacity for producing goods that will improve the living standards of the masses. Our people are suffering the consequences of that short sightedness.

How will you do things different from the past government?
I am in the position to do unbiased evaluation of the past governments because I was not part of it. When I review the achievements of previous administration in Imo state and compare those achievement with what I would have achieved had I been the person in charge of the state, I realise that I have more experience, I am more travelled and by implication more exposed. I also noticed that in a lot of cases I am more educated so the chances are that I would have performed better.

So my entrance into politics and the contest for governorship positions is based on my firm belief that we should descend from our comfort zone and enter the creeks to wrestle with the alligators that are holding our people hostage. Our people should not be left to endure this inhumanity any more.
Somebody has to be out there speaking out for the common man and the destitute. It is not sufficient to buy keke (tricycles) and give Imolites and think they are being improved.

They are not being improved at all instead poverty is being legitimised and institutionalised. What should be done is to empower Imo citizens through employment in various manufacturing industries that will produce goods and services that can be consumed as well as exported.
It is only when this is done that we can secure our future because at this point in time, our future is essentially dependent on the availability of crude oil that is sold and the money is shared.

You can infer from the news reports that crude oil price has been falling drastically that there is no money to share any more. It appears that the fall in oil price might even worsen.

This is at variance with the past when Nigerians could beat their chest boldly and say they were very lucky because they had crude oil which they sold to countries like America and earn hard currency. With the advent of technology America is now self sufficient in the crude oil they need to power their economy, so Nigeria has lost that market.

Also, most of the countries in Africa are now self sufficient in crude oil production. They can even export, so oil has become a resource that is shrinking all the time. It is envisaged that in the near future, there will be no money accruing from crude oil to be shared by the state governments in Nigeria.

So this is the time to bring on board Imolites who have experience and expertise that can be harnessed in establishing the manufacturing sector that will employ Imolites. Some of this products will be exported and by so doing improve the living standard of the people of Imo state.

What is your view on comments that Ada palms, Concord hotel and some other establishments have been run aground by the present government?

I am not in the race to discuss such matters but I know there are other goldmine industries we can establish in the state to add real value to the lives of the people residing in the state. We can manufacture other goods for export, we can sharpen toothpick, we can bake biscuits, we can produce meat from piggery.

There are so many things we can do, part of which can be geared to the satisfaction of the local market and the extras for export, the slogan should be export or die”

When Chief Sam Mbakwe was the governor of the state, being a visionary leader, he established about 35 industries in four years. He even established the first independent power plant in the state in Amaraku. Unfortunately, immediately he left his successor who had no clue as to what Mbakwe’s vision was, sold the industry as scrap. This was very sad and today many years after, we have to revert to this issue.

Creation of linkages

We have to stand on the platform of the industrialisation effort of late Sam Mbakwe and perform better by diversifying the different products we can produce, creating linkages between industrialisation, the skill requirements and the curricula that students study in the different higher institutions. There must be an integrated economic blue print that must be developed and religiously followed not simply running an economy of opening roads and commissioning boreholes.

Do you have any plan for rural areas?
I have plans for the rural areas; we cannot make strategic plans that concentrate on the urban areas and leave the rural areas. The other day I went to a church function in Ezi Obodo, we nearly had to swim to get to Ezi Obodo and the place is not a river rine area. Their needs are so bad and there are gullies everywhere. I have to deal with roads in the rural areas because you cannot sustain economy without having cottage industries in the rural areas, and there must be a means of evaluating what they produce and bringing them to the urban areas.

Some people are saying that the free education in Imo state is in shambles what will you do about that?
The free education in Imo state is only a slogan, it is a shame. We do not want that. People complain that it is not really free. People point out that there are some payments made under the table. The central thing is not what you pay but the quality of the education. Those that are graduating from the so called free education schools are they able to find jobs?

What has President Goodluck Jonathan done to former President Olusegun Obasanjo

What has President Goodluck Jonathan done to former President Olusegun Obasanjo

The constant attack on the person of President Goodluck Jonathan by former President Olusegun Obasanjo is no longer news but what is worrisome is the manner and way it is being carried out not minding the office he is occupying.

We are all witness to former President Olusegun Obasanjo leadership style where any one that dare talk to him will be severely punished through the instrument of government.

The question now is, why is he attacking  president Goodluck Jonathan unabated? what has he done to him to deserve all attacked on his person and the office he is occupying?

Does it mean that Gen. Muhammadu Buhari Dont have a certificate?

Does it mean that Gen. Muhammadu Buhari Dont have a certificate?

Immidiately the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, in the course of its statutory obligations published the details of all the presidential candidates and in the place of the educational qualification of Gen. Muhammadu Buhari listed an affidavit, there was a lot of political brouhaha.

Gen. Muhammadu Buhari in the said affidavit claimed that all his academic qualifications as at the time of presenting the said  affidavit was with the Secretary Military Board.

The question that beg for answers is, does it mean that Gen. Muhammadu Buhari do not have valid educational qualification?

if He does have, why keep them with the Military Board Secretary and for what reason?

we the followers/lovers of Gen Muhammadu Buhari urge him to as a matter of urgency to make effort to produce those document so that we can still hold our heads high and also give credence to his integrity posture.
